My view is that the problem with the examples is they both seem to be personal opinions (because although the first one seems more contained, the correlation/causality of both events is a opinion) and these are usually the problem in discussion, because them people feel the need to put their own opinions, and usually it goes down the hill after this.
I don’t think that personal opinion on these topics is a bad thing.
I agree, but what I was trying to to say is that, from my experience, what usually causes bad discussions is that most people see that “persons opinion” as a “personal attack on my own opinion”. If people were used to be a little more objective in discussion, we would not have that much problems. But most people can’t do that.
